Pentland Brands Alumni Privacy Notice

Pentland Brands is committed to protecting your personal data. 

The aim of this privacy notice is to let you know what personal information we collect and process, when you sign up to become a user of the Pentland Brands Alumni site (the “Site”). You should read this Privacy Policy carefully before using the Site. 

Important information and who we are

For the purposes of running and managing the Pentland Brands Alumni Site and network, your personal data will be collected by:

Pentland Brands Limited, 8 Manchester Square, London, W1U 3PH, United Kingdom, as the data controller, who may be supported by its affiliate companies.

Types of personal data we collect about you, how we collect it and what we use it for

You provide us with your information directly when you register to use the Site. We will collect and process information that you send or submit through the Site. This includes information about you that you have provided us by filling in forms, or by communicating with us, whether by phone, e-mail or otherwise, and/or via content, posts, endorsements or private messages via the Site. 

We process the following types of personal information:

  • Contact details
  • Identification information
  • Information about past and current employment
  • Education and qualifications
  • Information about your lifestyle

 

We may use and process your personal information where necessary for us to pursue our legitimate interests as a business for the following purposes:

  • For user verification and operation of the Site
  • For the prevention and detection of fraud or loss
  • For research and statistical analysis

 

We may use and process your personal information where necessary for us to do so in relation to potential job opportunities at Pentland Brands, which includes:

  • considering you for a vacancy;
  • if you wish to apply, processing your job application;
  • validating references that you provide as part of your job application;
  • reviewing and assessing any necessary regulatory, industry and/or security authorities relevant to the position that you have applied for.

 

Where you have consented for us to do so, we may use your personal information for the following purposes:

  • to become a user of the Site and in the generation of your profile;
  • to contact you by email, post, SMS or other electronic means about opportunities and job alerts that you might be interested in;
  • to send marketing and promotional materials to you on behalf of Pentland Brands;
  • to be contacted by an external recruitment team, in relation to a job posting that you have expressed interest in or applied for;

You can withdraw your consent at any time by logging-in to your account on the Site and updating your preferences, or if you get stuck, contact us at dataprotection@pentland.com. Data processed via active consent will continue to receive marketing relative to the initial opt-in until we have received an opt-out request.

Sharing your personal data

We may share your personal data with third parties in order to fulfil the purposes described above. This includes: 

  • Affiliate companies that support the delivery of the Alumni network and Site; 
  • Professional and legal advisors; 
  • Law enforcement or other governmental authorities; 
  • Third party providers (e.g. hosting providers for the Alumni Site); 
  • Publication on our websites and/or social media.

California Residents

We do not sell personal information as that term is defined under the CCPA/CPRA, nor do we “share” personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising unless otherwise stated.

If we engage in such activities in the future, we will update this notice and provide a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link.

International transfers

We may transfer personal data to a country that does not have laws that provide an equivalent level of protection for personal data as the laws in your home country. For any such transfers we will implement appropriate measures and safeguards to protect your personal data in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

Data storage and retention

We are committed to protecting your personal data and put security measures and procedures in place that are designed to keep your personal data safe, ensuring your data is used and stored securely on our systems.

We will not keep your personal data for longer than necessary. Retention periods will depend on the sensitivity of the data, the potential risks, the purposes for processing, and applicable legal requirements. Data will be securely deleted or anonymised once it is no longer required.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you have the following rights (subject to exemptions): 

  • Right to access your personal data; 
  • Right to correction or completion of your personal data; 
  • Right to deletion of your personal data in certain circumstances; 
  • Right to object to processing where we rely on legitimate interests; 
  • Right to the transfer of your personal data to third party in an appropriate format; 
  • Right to opt out from receiving direct marketing;
  • Right to withdraw consent at any time where relevant; 
  • Right to restriction of processing in certain circumstances;
  • Right to object to decisions being taken solely by automated means, including profiling;
  • Right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office via https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/.

EU residents

If you are located in the European Union, the following rights also apply under the EU GDPR:

  • You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority in addition to the UK ICO.

Where we transfer your personal data outside the European Economic Area (EEA), we will ensure that appropriate safeguards (such as the use of Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission) are in place to protect your personal data.

U.S. residents

If you are located in the U.S., state privacy laws may apply, including the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020 (CPRA), the Colorado Privacy Act (CPA), the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA), the Connecticut Data Privacy Act (CTDPA), and the Utah Consumer Privacy Act (UCPA).  

Depending on your state of residence, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information: 

  • Right to know: The right to request details about the personal information we collect, use, disclose, and sell about you.
  • Right to correct: You have the right to request correction of inaccurate personal information.
  • Right to delete: The right to request the deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
  • Right to Data Portability: The right to receive a portable copy of your personal data.
  • Right to opt-out: The right to opt-out of the sale of your personal information (note: Speedo does not sell personal information).
  • Right to limit use of Sensitive Data: Restrict how we use sensitive personal information.
  • Right to non-discrimination: The right to not be discriminated against for exercising any of your privacy rights.
  • Authorized agent: You may designate an authorized agent to make requests on your behalf.

If you are located in India, you have rights under the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023. These include:

  • Right to access information about how we process your personal data;
  • Right to request correction or erasure of your personal data;
  • Right to withdraw consent you provided to process your personal data;
  • Right to nominate another individual to exercise your rights in the event of death or incapacity;
  • Right to submit a grievance regarding our handling of your personal data if you believe your data protection rights have been infringed;

Where we transfer personal information overseas, we will take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your personal data in line with this privacy notice.

 

Australia

If you are located in Australia, you have rights under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). These include:

  • Right to access your personal information;
  • Right to correction of your personal information;
  • Right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (https://www.oaic.gov.au/) if you believe your privacy rights have been infringed;

Where we transfer personal information overseas, we will take reasonable steps to ensure the recipient complies with the APPs.

Changes to the Privacy Notice and your duty to inform us of changes

We will review and update this privacy notice as required. If our purposes for processing change, we will inform you as soon as possible.
